BOOK THIS TOUR

Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut.

Picked up from your hotel and drive to Marangu gate (1,830 m.). After completing the entrance formalities, start to climb up through the attractive and unspoiled forest to Mandara Hut (2,700 m.). The volcanic remains of Maundi Crater are nearby and make a good afternoon excursion. An alternative is to rest and enjoy the beautiful forest. There is a rich birdlife at the huts and monkeys are often seen as well. [4-5-hour walk]

Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

The first part of the walk is a steep ascent through forest, but the path soon opens out into grassy moorland and, in clear weather, there are good views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. You will climb steadily through the moorland zone to Horombo Hut (3,720 m.). Sunrises and sunsets here are often very stunning. [5-6-hour walk]

Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Climb very gradually towards the lunar desert of the Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. You will reach Kibo Hut (4,700 m.) at the bottom of the crater wall by around midday. The remainder of the day is spent resting and eating in preparation for the final climb at night! [4-5-hour walk]

Day 4: Summit Day then down to Horombo Hut

Start your ascent by torchlight at about 1 am to get to Gillman’s Point by sunrise. The initial climb is steep over the loose volcanic screen, but there are some well-graded zigzags and a slow but steady pace will have us up to Gillman’s (5,685 m.) in about five or six hours. You will rest there and spend some time enjoying the sunrise. If you are still feeling strong you will do a 3-hour round trip to Uhuru Peak (5,896 m.) passing close to the spectacular glaciers that still occupy most of the summit area. The descent is surprisingly fast and you will return to Horombo Hut for the night. [11-15-hour walk]

Day 5: Horombo Hut – Tarangire

After breakfast, you will start with a pleasant moorland walk to Mandara and then a lovely forest walks back to the park gate then turn heading to Tarangire for dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 6: Tarangire national park

After an early breakfast, depart for Tarangire, Tanzania’s third largest national park and sanctuary for an unusually large elephant population for game drive, with picnic lunch. Majestic baobab trees are the interesting feature of the park, dwarfing the animals that feed beneath them. Animals concentrate along the Tarangire River which provides the only permanent water supply in the area. There is a great diversity of wildlife including lions, leopards, cheetahs, and up to six thousand elephants. In the late afternoon, you will continue to the lodge for dinner.

Day 7: Departure

After breakfast, you will be transferred to return back to Arusha and continue with own arrangement.
